In depth

Verdict

There is not a great deal for backers to go on here with only three of the 15 runners having raced previously but one of those, Golden Measure, showed enough on his debut to suggest that a race of this nature would be within his compass and he gets the vote over the newcomers Baffling Secret, Tullynagardy and Keen And Able. The selection found just Nicky Henderson's Ambition Royal too good for him on his debut at Warwick last month and with the third horse seven lengths further back that form is probably useful. Of the others to have raced, Richard Guest's Lost Soldier Two, who showed promise on his Wetherby debut, makes more appeal than Welcome Archie but the biggest threat is likely to come from one of the debutantes. Baffling Secret represents the in-form yard of Len Lungo that always has to be respected in these races, while a market move for Malcolm Jefferson's Tullynagardy would be of interest. Nicky Richards, who is another trainer with a good record in bumpers relies upon the filly Keen And Able, while Leading Man, a son of Old Vic trained by Ferdy Murphy, is another that makes plenty of appeal and could be good enough. However, Golden Measure showed plenty of promise on his debut and is taken to go one better here.
