River Club would not have to improve greatly to land this ordinary contest and he is narrowly preferred over Karmest, Cheery Cat and Exit Strategy. The last named posted an improved effort when dropped in trip last time and looks worth another try over sprint distances. William Haggas has a good record with similar types and, as there is no real strength in depth to the race, a bold bid cannot be ruled out. Cheery Cat won on soft ground at Pontefract on his penultimate start and was then far from disgraced when finishing third in a stronger race at Newcastle 10 days ago. The stamina demands of this course will suit the top weight and he may be good value for at least a place. Karmest also coped well with cut in the ground when winning a fillies handicap at Warwick last month. This is a tougher ask but, as she is obviously in good heart, she has to make the shortlist. However, River Club shaped as if a sixth furlong would be ideal for him last time out and, with his yard flying just now, this son of Kyllachy appeals as a reasonable betting option in a wide open contest.
