In depth

Verdict

Corporal Maddox fully deserves his place at the head of the handicap but is becoming frustrating. He'll need everything to drop precisely right and if that happens he's likely to notch an elusive success. However, he's not totally trustworthy and GAUL WOOD, a potentially interesting three-year-old in the making, looks a safer option in receipt of 10lb. The Dascombe yard is in fine form and the son of Amadeus Wolf only went down by a head on his third career start at Chester last time. He must surely come on considerably for that and gets the nod. Mingun Bell and Good Authority arrive on the back of victories and complete the shortlist as the remainder look out of form at present.
