MAWATHEEQ can make a successful handicap debut in this company at the main expense of Victoria Reel and Totally Focussed. The selection is trained by Marcus Tregoning who is currently enjoying his best spell of the season and he went into all the notebooks following his debut at the start of August. He duly confirmed the promise of that run with a comfortable success at Newmarket and appears to have been given every chance by the assessor; this looks to be a decent opportunity for him. Victoria Reel has performed consistently this season and should appreciate the return to racing over a mile but an 8lb rise for a relatively hard fought success in what was no more than a fair handicap confined to her own sex looks a little harsh. Cigalas is another that could turn out to be on a stiff enough perch and of more interest are Amazing Star and Totally Focussed. The former is an Irish raider who also made the trip over for the Britannia in June and he didn't run too badly when finishing in midfield on that occasion. He returned to form last time and lines up here from a 4lb lower mark and is an interesting contender. On the face of things Totally Focussed has a good bit to prove here as he has yet to make the frame in four attempts on grass which is in stark contrast to his all-weather record. However, three of those runs were on his first three starts and all-weather form also seems to translate fairly well to this track. His latest run at Kempton came in a competitive series final that was won by the smart Premio Loco and he was noted putting in plenty of good late work despite being forced to race wide from his disadvantageous low draw. If he can reproduce that form this afternoon then he could be in the shake-up but he may have the misfortune to bump into a smart and well handicapped rival in Mawatheeq.
