Verdict

The £75,000 spent on supplementing Dartmouth now looks well spent after the defection of Postponed. Sir Michael Stoute's colt may not have the quality of some previous winners and has never won at the highest level but showed real battling qualities to see off HIGHLAND REEL in the Hardwicke Stakes. The runner-up has won twice at this level and may have found the ground too soft at the Royal meeting. It would be no surprise to see him reverse the form and he looks much better than stable companion Sir Isaac Newton, who has never won above Group 3 level. Only two three-year-olds have won this in ten years and John Gosden trained them both. Wings of Desire represents the Derby form having finished a good fourth behind Harzand and the Dante winner is definitely a leading contender. His stablemate Western Hymn is a consistent performer but it would be a surprise if he was good enough, a remark that also applies to Second Step. French challenger Erupt is by no means out of this having finished runner-up in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud and his fifth behind Golden Horn in last year's 'Arc plus a victory in the Grand Prix de Paris put him right in the picture.
