French raider Darestan has arguably the best form on offer but he may want a softer surface and, given trainer Mark Johnston's excellent record in this contest, preference is for Serengeti, who gets the vote ahead of Secret Tune. The last mentioned has shown progressive form but has more to do than when landing a Musselburgh handicap last time so may be best watched. David Wachman's Consulate has shown progressive form but is another looking to step up from handicap form into Group 3 class and may struggle to do so, while David Elsworth's Pathos is far from certain to stay this far. Aidan O'Brien's Mahler was highly tried in the Derby last time and should appreciate the drop in class today over a trip that should suit. He makes more appeal than the Michael Jarvis-trained Veracity who needs to improve again to trouble the judge. Godolphin's Eastern Anthem has the ability to take a hand here but is far from certain to stay this far. Mark Johnston's Hearthstead Maison has disappointed of late and preference is for stablemate Serengeti who has shown progressive form in handicaps and has plenty of stamina in his pedigree so should stay the trip.
