Kensington Oval is quickly pitched into tough company and must be respected, but KING OF ROME is dropping in grade and he is selected ahead of Unnefer, Pampas Cat and Dr Faustus. Second in the Lingfield Derby Trial, King Of Rome was the surprise choice of Johnny Murtagh for the Derby. He ran in midfield despite not looking entirely happy with the track and trip, so now dropped in distance on a more conventional track, he must be considered. The stable, at the time of writing, have already started the week well and he looks the pick of these. Expect further improvement from recent winners Collection and Dr Faustus, with the latter impressive on his handicap debut but realistically he has plenty to find here. First-time blinkers may bring about some improvement from Alfathaa and Central Station, but both have a little to prove now. Unnefer is the top-rated horse in the line-up and he holds Pampas Cat on their recent Newmarket clash; he is still open to more improvement despite having plenty of experience but he has a penalty to shoulder here. At a price Without A Prayer could go well for Oaks-winning trainer Ralph Beckett, however it is King Of Rome who is the fancy.
