Rule of Law can make amends for his Epsom Derby defeat to land this Group 2 prize at the expense of Irish raider Barati and African Dream. Rule of Law bids to give a boost to both the Dante and Derby form, having got within half a length of North Light on the Knavesmire before again chasing home Sir Michael Stoute's colt at Epsom. He did nothing but improve as a two-year-old for David Loder and the move to Godolphin has seen him continue to thrive. Like most of those that lined up against North Light in the Derby, there were question marks over his ability to truly get a mile and a half, but he dispelled those theories emphatically and this race is there for the taking if he runs up to his mark. Barati bids to become the first Irish winner of this event since Klairvimy in 1973 but hopes are high that he can make a bold bid. He has been mixing it with animals of the calibre of Yeats and stayed on well when third to Meath in the ten-furlong Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh last time. He makes slightly more appeal than prolific winner African Dream who can number the Sandown Classic Trial and Chester's Dee Stakes among his list of accomplishments. However, fast ground is a big worry and his unbeaten run may be about to come to an end. John Gosden's Haadef has a lot on his plate along with Gold History despite Mark Johnston's impressive record at Royal Ascot. Godolphin, successful with Mutafaweq five years ago, look all set to add to that with Rule of Law.
