Verdict

Two of the last three renewals have gone to John Gosden and the unbeaten PALACE PIER has developed into a high-class miler. He followed a victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes with another Group 1 success on heavy going in France and is preferred to stablemate Nazeef, who finished well ahead of Veracious when landing the Sun Chariot at Newmarket. Circus Maximus won the Queen Anne here in June with Roseman back in fourth but was no match for the selection in France while stable companion Lancaster House should ensure a decent pace. Last year’s runner-up The Revenant won a Group 2 at Longchamp on his belated reappearance and can figure again but Goodwood’s Celebration Mile winner Century Dream and Lord Glitters were both well beaten in this last year.
