Any further rain would suit Wonderful Tonight, who is at her best in heavy going as when landing a Group 1 in France a fortnight ago. She’d earlier finished behind Dame Malliot in the Prix Vermeille on good ground at Longchamp with EVEN SO (NAP) back in sixth but the latter will appreciate the return to soft. Ger Lyons’ filly beat the Ballydoyle duo Laburnum and Passion when landing the Irish Oaks at the Curragh in July and should also have the measure of both Thundering Nights and Gold Wand on collateral form. Antonia De Vega won a Group 3 at Newmarket last month and may finish closer than last year’s sixth while stablemate Manuela De Vega won the Lancashire Oaks on soft going at Haydock earlier with Cabaletta well beaten. Frankie partners last year’s Champion Stakes fifth Mehdaayih rather than Frankly Darling and the Gosden filly could go well back over 1m4f for the first time since winning a Group 2 in France last year.
