Goodwood Starlight is preferred to Formation and Redesignation. The selection won both starts at two and contested a competitive Newmarket handicap on his reappearance only to disappoint. The yard was out of form at the time and he didn't re-emerge until the end of May where he ran much better in finishing a close fourth over nine furlongs at Goodwood. He was stepped up to this trip for his next outing at the same venue and powered home to run out an impressive winner. He's been raised by 8lbs but is just the type of progressive horse that his yard does well with and can make sufficient improvement to defy the hike. Formation finished in front of him at Goodwood in May and is 1lb better off this afternoon so has a clear chance on the book but he is more exposed than the selection. That said, he only seems to do just enough and may not be easy for the handicapper to collar. Bandama is on a fair mark but vulnerable to improvers whilst William Blake has to put two poor runs behind him and can only be watched despite his yard's resurgence in form. Just Lille is running well and 3lbs well in compared to the future but may find others better handicapped. The selection may just be one of those and Goodwood Starlight is taken to land this contest.
