Standpoint is the solid starting point but we'll give QANOON another chance to confirm the promise of his debut by taking this. As a three-year-old our pick has to buck the trend of older horses taking this contest but we're hopeful he can, despite having to bounce back from a costly defeat at Ayr last time. The colt was slowly away that day having sweated up beforehand and the run is best forgotten, especially as that unconventional track may've also added to his downfall. We'd prefer to look at his impressive Newmarket debut and the form of that race suggests he should be up to winning races off this rating of 87, and this one isn't particularly strong. Standpoint will do for many here and it's easy enough to see why, as recent efforts have been consistent and he deserves to pick up a prize. The trouble is he's crept up to a career-high mark despite having only an average maiden win to his name and we feel he may be found out by his own consistency for the time being. Wise Dennis is thrown in on old form and has placed off this mark of 82 this term, but his latest effort was below-par and he's not won since 2008. When last racing on the flat Soccerjackpot won an above-average claimer but he's been pulled up over timber in both starts since and arrives under a cloud, so Kay Gee Bee may be a more potent threat to the principles. Another consistent type, he's not won for almost three years but drops in class here and is also dropping in the ratings. Baylini is hard to win with and has plenty to do at the weights and Tinshu saves her best turf efforts for Windsor, so we're happy to return to Qanoon, the only horse with untapped potential.
