A fascinating clash between three of the country’s top staying novices. Ahoy Senor, who won the Grade 1 Sefton Hurdle at this meeting last year, was beaten more than three lengths by L'Homme Presse in last month’s Brown’s Advisory at Cheltenham and more than seven lengths by BRAVEMANSGAME in the Kauto Star in December. Though there isn’t a lot between the market principals on the form book, Paul Nicholls’ gelding arrives fresh and can come out on top. Fury Road did win a Grade 1 at Leopardstown in December but takes on even stronger opposition today.
Ahoy Senor (IRE) 4-1 (11-4) Led, jumped right at times, slow 7th, soon headed, mistake 14th, lost 2nd and mistake 3 out, rallied and left 2nd 2 out, no impression on winner flat, stayed on, 2nd of 9, 3 1/2l behind L'Homme Presse (11-4) at Cheltenham 3m (1) sft in Mar.
Bravemansgame (FR) 8-11fav (11-8) Mostly jumped well, made virtually all, hit 4 out and headed briefly, soon in front again, 2 lengths ahead last, stayed on strongly, impressive, won at Newbury 2m 7f hcp (3) gs in Feb beating Pats Fancy (10-6) by 3 1/2l, 4 ran.
Fury Road (IRE) 9-1 (11-10) In touch, not fluent in 3rd at 7th, mistake 4 out and dropped to 4th, 3rd 3 out, weakened in 4th before last, tailed off, 5th of 8, dist behind Galopin Des Champs (11-10) at Leopardstown 2m 5f (1) Yielding in Feb.
