Tranmere skipper grabs only goal for first win in nine
Skipper Ian Thomas-Moore blasted a stunning winner to hand Tranmere a 1-0 win over Wycombe and ease the pressure on under-fire boss John Barnes.
The 33-year-old striker netted a sublime 16th-minute volley and that proved to be enough to secure a first victory in nine games and see Rovers leapfrog fellow strugglers Wycombe in the League One relegation zone.
Michael Ricketts' header from Paul McLaren's corner hit a defender and looped out into the path of Thomas-Moore, who blasted an angled 12-yard rocket into the far top corner for his fourth goal of the season.
Wycombe rallied and striker Jon-Paul Pittman was twice narrowly off target, while his 10-yard header from Stuart Green's corner was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Luke Daniels on the stroke of half-time.
Wanderers rallied
The hosts piled forward after the break but Chris Zebroski headed over Craig Woodman's free-kick and then had a shot cleared off the line.
Matt Phillips also belted a 22-yard volley just wide for Wanderers, while Ricketts almost doubled Tranmere's lead on the counter-attack when he headed Chris Shuker's cross against the bar in the 72nd minute.
