Newcastle United hang on at West Brom to claim a vital point
Saturday 20 April 2013 19:16, UK
A goal in the second half by Billy Jones cancelled out Yoan Gouffran's earlier strike to secure West Brom a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
Steve Clarke was pleased with West Brom's performance in the second half, but was thankful that they were still in with a shout of getting a point. He told Sky Sports: "Newcastle were better and sharper than us in the first half. They looked like a side who wanted to secure their place in the Premier League next season. "All credit to them at the start of the game. They created a number of chances and we were very lucky to hang in there." Alan Pardew felt Newcastle should have won the game and could have been out of sight early on. He told Sky Sports: "To be honest, the game should have been over at half-time. "West Brom went direct in the second half but if we had scored that second when we were on top we might have been leaving with all three points."
