Phillips scores on his return

West Brom went top of the Championship after beating Charlton 4-2 in an entertaining game at The Hawthorns. Charlton took the lead against the run of play in the 37th minute, when Jerome Thomas did well to cross and the injured Chris Iwelumo, who was soon to be substituted, out-muscled Paul Robinson to head home. But West Brom's Roman Bednar equalised in the 43rd minute after playing a one-two with Zoltan Gera to get behind the defence and slot home a cool finish, his fourth goal in the last five outings. The home-side then went in front in the 50th minute after Gera headed in Brunt's fantastic curling cross at the far-post. But Charlton substitute Izale McLeod equalised in the 73nd minute - his first goal for the club - when his shot crept under the arms of keeper Luke Steele, who should have done much better. But the Baggies restored their lead in the 80th minute when Gera netted his second of the game. Substitute Kevin Phillips, making his first appearance in seven games following injury, then wrapped up the points with a 84rd minute goal.
