Tranmere Power to Cup win
Saturday 8 November 2014 17:59, UK
Ten-man Tranmere booked their place in the FA Cup second round after Max Power's penalty secured a 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers.
Power struck in the second half but League Two's Tranmere were made to hold on as striker George Donnelly saw red for kicking out at Tom Parkes. The first opportunity fell for the home side, with Eliot Richards seeing his long-distance effort curl wide before Janoi Donacien missed a header from 12 yards out in the 21st minute. Matty Taylor spurned a great opportunity for the Gas from the edge of the box while Richards continued to threaten for the hosts, Steve Mildenhall saving well from his long-range strike. After the break however Gas defender Mark McChrystal handled in the box from a corner, for Power to coolly find the top corner with his penalty. But the hosts were made to sweat when Donnelly was sent off for violent conduct in the 62nd minute, with keeper Owain Fon Williams making a series of saves and Marc Laird clearing off the line in injury time.
