Toulouse boosted their bid to beat the Ligue 1 drop by claiming a second consecutive home win with a 1-0 victory over Montpellier.

Oscar Trejo netted the vital goal just before half-time as Toulouse built on their victory over Bordeaux three weeks ago to draw level with Reims and Lorient on 35 points from 32 games.

Montpellier had an early opportunity to test Ali Ahamada in the Toulouse goal but Anthony Mounier's free-kick from a dangerous position was weak and the goalkeeper gathered easily.

Toulouse were forced into a change midway through the first half when Aleksandr Pesic was injured and soon after the hosts went close when Wissam Ben Yedder set up Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro but his effort found Geoffrey Jourdren's post.

Rolland Courbis' side had a penalty claim turned down when Mounier went down under a Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik challenge before they found themselves a goal behind.

Ben Yedder was the architect and his jinking run down the right ended with a pinpoint delivery which Trejo took one touch to control before he dispatched a powerful shot beyond Ahamada.

Montpellier looked like the only side likely to score as the second half wore on and Lucas Barrios picked out Kevin Berigaud wonderfully but the former Evian striker failed to get the necessary touch.

Moments later Mathieu Deplange worked Ahamada again as his effort from distance was kept out by a decent one-handed save from Toulouse's first-choice stopper.

Tongo Doumbia should have doubled Toulouse's advantage but he headed Adrien Regattin's cross the wrong side of the post in added-time.
