Stockport see off Wycombe in play-off semi-final
Stockport will face Rochdale in the League Two play-off final after a 2-1 aggregate win over Wycombe.
The two sides went into their second leg encounter at Edgeley Park locked together at 1-1 with everything still to play for.
However, it is Jim Gannon's men who will be making the journey to Wembley at the end of the month for a Lancashire derby with Dale.
It took just seven minutes for the hosts to open the deadlock, with Liam Dickinson notching for the 20th time in a goal-laden campaign.
The young striker picked up possession on halfway, carried the ball purposefully towards goal, before providing a neat finish to a fine solo run as he flicked his effort calmly into the bottom corner.
Delroy Facey wasted the visitors' best chance of the opening period when he headed wide from six-yards out, while Tommy Doherty hit a twisting volley straight at Frank Fielding on the stroke of half-time.
Dominance
While the home side held the ascendancy for much of the first-half, Wycombe dominated the second.
Paul Lambert's men were immediately on the offensive and were unfortunate not to find an equaliser inside 10 minutes as Conrad Logan could only parry a Gary Holt header back into the danger zone.
Unfortunately for Wanderers no-one had gambled on getting into the box and Logan's blushes were spared.
Scott McGleish then flicked a deft header wide of the post, while Facey's misfortune in front of goal continued as he blazed a close-range effort over the bar and planted a free header wide of the upright.
Leon Knight stepped off the bench in an attempt to add some much-needed firepower to the Wycombe attack, but only succeeded in firing his big opportunity high into the stands.
For all their endeavours they were ultimately unable to find a breakthrough and it is the Hatters who will be gunning for promotion on Bank Holiday Monday.
