Camara cancels out Van Heerden's opener

South Africa and Senegal failed to advance from Group D, with the duo playing out a 1-1 draw at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. A draw was not enough for either side, and the result, coupled with Angola's stalemate with Tunisia, sees the pair exit this year's Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal were first to carve out a decent opportunity when Henri Camara met Mamadou Niang's cutback, but the forward's effort lacked venom and Moneed Josephs saved comfortably. South Africa gradually began to dominate possession, and they had a strong penalty appeal waved away when El Diouf went in wildly on Nasief Morris. On 14 minutes, Carlos Alberto Parreira's men took the lead as Elrio van Heerden lashed home first time from Teko Modise's deep cross to the back post. Sibusiso Zuma almost made it 2-0 when he ended his powerful run with a drop of the shoulder, before unleashing a low strike; however Senegal goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul was equal to it.

Equaliser

Camara restored parity on 37 minutes when he capitalised on an Aaron Mokoena mistake to slot coolly past the exposed Josephs. Bafana Bafana started the second half well, with Siphiwe Tshabalala leading a dangerous attack as he fired just wide after some excellent work down the left channel. Zuma continued to impress for South Africa, and on 62 minutes he was denied a goal when Coundoul pulled off a stunning save. Parreira's side continued to press for a winner, but it was to no avail, with Coundoul called into action twice in quick succession, reacting extremely well on both occasions.
