Manucho magic tames Lions

Manchester United-bound Manucho scored twice as Angola impressed in seeing off Senegal 3-1.

Old Trafford-bound striker bares his teeth

Manucho showed precisely why Sir Alex Ferguson is so keen to see him at Old Trafford as his clinically taken brace helped Angola to a 3-1 win over Senegal. Angola now sit proudly atop of Africa Cup of Nations Group D, largely thanks to the attacking talents of Manchester United bound Manucho. Senegal started the game in Tamale as favourites and the bookies looked to be on the money when in the 20th minute a goal made in England gave the Teranga Lions the lead. Bolton's El-Hadji Diouf floated in a free-kick to the back post and as the ball was nodded back across goal, Newcastle defender Abdoulaye Faye headed home. Faye's goal was just deserts for Senegal as with Diouf pulling the strings in a free role, they were much the better of the two sides. Angola were on the ropes but it did not prove to be a knockout blow, as they made Senegal pay for missing glorious chances in the shape of Frederic Mendy's off target volley and Diouf's failure to meet an inviting cross with the goal gaping. In the second period Angola needed just three minutes to get themselves level, as Manucho stretched every sinew in his neck to power a fine header beyond Tony Syla from Nsimba Baptista's pinpoint delivery. Diouf and Fulham's Diomansy Kamara went close to restoring Senegal's advantage but it was the Black Antelopes that proved the more ruthless, as Manucho grabbed his third goal of the tournament in capitalising on Syla's fluffed attempt at clearing a corner. Angola's victory was cemented 15 minutes from time when the impressive Flavio got the goal his effervescent performance deserved, with a well executed header from Yamba Asha's cross.
