Second-half headers from Charles Vernam and Luke Waterfall secured Grimsby a deserved 2-0 victory in their Lincolnshire derby with Scunthorpe, who finished the game with 10 men.
The pair nodded home in the space of 11 minutes to breach what had previously been a resolute home rearguard and earn the Mariners a first league success over their rivals since 1990.
Defences dominated an opening 45 minutes that saw plenty of endeavour but little quality, with a free-kick curled inches wide by home striker Kevin Van Veen one of few efforts of note.
After the break though, Town took control, with Vernam one of two players left unmarked at the far post to coolly head home Elliott Hewitt's inviting cross in the 51st minute.
Scunthorpe were still recovering from falling behind when Waterfall stormed into the middle and met a swirling corner to the back post 11 minutes later.
The Iron's afternoon went from bad to worse in the 81st minute when substitute Levi Sutton was sent off for a late lunge on Elliott Whitehouse, only four minutes after coming on.
