Premier League: Manchester City too strong for Reading at the Madejski Stadium
Wednesday 15 May 2013 05:40, UK
Manchester City made the perfect start to life post-Roberto Mancini on Tuesday as they collected a 2-0 win away at Reading.
Reading boss Nigel Adkins claimed afterwards to have seen enough from his side to suggest that a brighter future lies ahead, as they prepare for life back in the Championship. He told Sky Sports: "We have got a lot of players who have played in the Championship. We know the demands of Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday, the mental side of it. "There is a lot of positivity about the place. On the training ground the players are certainly in a positive mind set and everyone wants to be in and is looking forward to the future." Manchester City's caretaker manager Brian Kidd admitted to being shocked by events at the Etihad Stadium in the build-up to Tuesday's game, but was delighted to pick up another three points. He told the Blues' official website: "If you were to ask me about what has gone on in the last 24 hours, it was a shock to the staff. "I would have just taken the result tonight. If you had said to me you are going to get three points and clinch second place, I'd have accepted that - the way the last 48 hours have gone. We aren't greedy and we don't have to qualify now, we're second."
