Rangers 4-0 Dundee: Gers reach Scottish Cup semi-finals
Sunday 6 March 2016 10:15, UK
Rangers eased into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup as they beat Dundee 4-0 at Ibrox.
Harry Forrester opened the scoring for the Championship leaders after just 13 seconds before goals from Jason Holt and Andy Halliday in the early stages of the second half and a late strike from Lee Wallace secured victory on a day Dundee will wish to forget.
The home side made a brilliant start when Kevin Holt was dispossessed by Forrester and he strode forward to blast a shot from 15 yards which beat Scott Bain at his near post.
Bain was more alert in dealing with a James Tavernier shot at his near post from six yards, but from the resulting short corner Forrester sent a driven ball into the six-yard box which spun off Paul McGinn and off the base of the post.
Dundee responded to that scare four minutes later when Greg Stewart turned inside from the right flank and squared the ball to Gary Harkins who placed his low shot beyond the diving Wes Foderingham and a foot wide of the target.

Bain was again called into action to deal with a Tavernier free-kick after Halliday was fouled 25 yards from goal, and two minutes later the Dundee 'keeper held a Kenny Miller drive from just outside the penalty area.
Dundee were lively in attack when they did manage to venture forward, with Stewart in particular looking capable of causing problems, but there was no end product, and while Paul McGowan hit the target from 22 yards Foderingham made a comfortable save.
Rangers had dominated the first half but the visitors could have levelled just before the break when Kane Hemmings, who was unmarked inside the six-yard box, failed to connect with a Harkins header at a Dundee corner.
But Rangers doubled their lead two minutes after the break as they opened up the Premiership side with an excellent exchange of passes involving Forrester, Barrie McKay and Miller to set up Holt to nod over the line from three yards.
Dundee's collapse was complete seven minutes later when Halliday's free-kick went through the wall and beat Bain at his right side, despite the stopper getting a hand on the ball.
Bain did atone within three minutes as he spread himself to deny Wallace as he raced into the box on to a Miller flick.
Rob Kiernan, who had blocked a goal-bound shot from Hemmings on 51 minutes, repeated the task to deny the Dundee striker 20 minutes from time.
McGowan then got the ball caught under his feet six yards from goal as he latched on to a chip from Nick Ross, and the advancing Foderingham took the ball off his toe, but it was too little too late from the Dark Blues.
Wallace added the fourth in the dying minutes as he walked into the Dundee penalty area with embarrassing ease and slipped the ball under Bain to seal a comfortable victory.
