Petrofac Training Cup: Rangers thrash Clyde 8-1 in second-round tie at Ibrox
Tuesday 19 August 2014 08:36, UK
Rangers strolled to an 8-1 victory over Clyde at Ibrox to secure a place the third round of the Petrofac Training Cup.
Clyde boss Barry Ferguson was making a return to a ground he has many happy memories of playing on, but his bottom-tier side were torn apart by their Championship opponents.
Kris Boyd scored a hat-trick, Lewis Macleod and Lee McCulloch grabbed a brace each, and another goal from Fraser Aird warmed the sparse 11,000 crowd.
The rout started when Nicky Clark burst forward from midway inside his own half and slipped a pass to Boyd on the right side of the box and the striker sent a low strike into the opposite corner for his first goal since signing for Rangers.
Eight minutes later Boyd dummied a Lee Wallace centre and Aird finished from close range despite the best efforts of Clyde keeper Jamie Barclay, who got a hand on the shot.

The home side then produced a glimpse of the form that took them all the way to final of this competition last season, when Boyd stepped over a Macleod pass and ran on to a clip from Clark to roll the ball past Barclay.
McCulloch (38) got in on the act when he powered a drive high inside the post from the edge of the box, and Macleod smacked in the fifth just before the break from 25 yards.
In a move reminiscent of the opening goal substitute Dean Shiels broke forward and released Macleod, this time on the left side of the box, and he sent a low shot across Barclay into the corner on 65 minutes.
Skipper McCulloch (77) then fired a drive into the top corner from 25 yards before Boyd completed his treble tucking his shot home from inside the box two minutes later.
Clyde were rewarded for their participation when Kevin Watt burst into the box rifled the ball into the roof of the net in the final minute of the match.
