SPFL: Rangers return to winning ways with 2-1 victory against Raith Rovers

Rangers bounced back from last week’s defeat against Hibernian to secured their first win in four matches.

Andy Murdoch and Kris Boyd scored two contrasting goals as Rangers climbed into second place in the Scottish Championship and increased their tally of goals against Raith Rovers to 12 this season.

Kenny McDowall’s side were in complete control until the 70th minute when Ryan Conroy’s deflected shot went in for Rovers, belatedly sparking the home side to life.

Murdoch had scored a sensational goal from outside the box in the first half, his first goal for the club, rifling the ball into the top right corner and Boyd scored from close range for the visitors.

Rangers had been superior in the first half and went in at the break disappointed they only had a one goal advantage.

They continued in the same vein in the second half and when Boyd had given them a two goal lead and the game appeared to be all but over.

However, Rangers’ resolve was tested when Rovers scored with their first shot on target and were allowed back into the contest.

Rovers had achieved heroics against Rangers just less than two weeks before these two sides met on Friday with a 2-1 victory at Ibrox in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, but on Friday they were unable to produce a similar performance.

The win has arrested the slump have been on and Rangers are now one point ahead of Hibernian with two games in hand.

McDowall said before the game it was important to get back to winning ways and his team achieved exactly that and now they will be looking to secure back to back victories when they travel to Falkirk next week.
