Matt Tubbs' first goal for Portsmouth helped them to a much-needed 1-0 win over Hartlepool at Fratton Park.
Striker Tubbs, who signed for Pompey from Bournemouth last month, clipped his header past Scott Flinders after a sumptuous cross from Ryan Taylor to end their nine game run without a win. Andy Awford's job now looks to be safe, for the time being, after remaining unbeaten since the Portsmouth board voted against sacking the club legend two weeks ago. Portsmouth could have opened the scoring in the 42nd second when Joe Devera poked Jed Wallace's in-swinging free-kick narrowly wide. The vocal home crowd had threatened to turn on their side as they monopolised possession but failed to find a way past rock bottom Hartlepool. But on the hour, Tubbs nodded in unmarked to finally add to the 12 League Two goals he netted at AFC Wimbledon in a free-scoring first half of the season. The hosts looked to score an insurance goal but former Charlton midfielder Danny Hollands' volley from the edge of the box could only graze the crossbar.
