Grecians secure fourth away win of the season
An impressive Exeter strode to a fourth away win of the season as they ended Dean Glover's bright start as Vale manager.
Glover had guided his team to victories at Shrewsbury and Chester, but he failed to bring a swift end to Vale's dismal home form. Exeter's excellent form on the road was soon on course to continue as they took a firm grip on the game with two early goals. Veteran striker Marcus Stewart, who will be 36 next month, drove home from close range after Berti Cozic had headed Matt Gill's 17th minute corner against a post.
And Vale's keeper Joe Anyon had to fetch the ball out of the net again two minutes later after Liam Sercombe's 20-yard shot looped in after taking a deflection.
Exeter protected their advantage in some comfort until half-time and sealed the points in comical fashion when Anyon allowed Gill's 65th minute corner to slip through his fingers and into the net.
Vale bagged a consolation goal four minutes from time when Luke Rodgers drove in a close range shot from a knockdown by fellow substitute Danny Glover.
