Port Vale 2-0 Cambridge: Vale defy poor weather conditions to record win
Saturday 9 December 2017 20:01, UK
A Christian Montanaro brace helped Port Vale see off Cambridge United 2-0 at Vale Park in League Two after fears that the game could be postponed due to bad weather.
A group of Port Vale fans volunteered alongside club staff and grounds staff to clear the pitch of snow to ensure the fixture took place.
Port Vale took the lead just before half-time when Christian Montanaro converted a low David Worrall cross curling his shot into the top corner in the 45th minute.
Montanaro popped up again a minute after the interval to poke the ball home from a Worrall corner following some poor defending to make the game 2-0.
Montanaro tried a long range effort in the 70th minute that just fizzed wide before being taken off to a standing ovation from the Port Vale faithful.

The visitors had chances but failed to convert after Harrison Dunk found Unche Ikpeazu in the 20th minute at the far post but he was unable to tuck it away.
Ikpeazu took an early bath on 89 minutes as he received his second yellow card after receiving his first just two minutes earlier.
