Paris Saint-Germain 7-1 Celtic: Champions League favourites break group-stage goalscoring record

Paris Saint-Germain recovered from a goal down to secure an emphatic 7-1 victory over Celtic and break a Champions League goalscoring record in the process.

Moussa Dembele had stunned the Parc des Princes with a first-minute opener for Celtic, but Neymar turned the game on its head with two goals (9, 21) for the Group B leaders.

The Brazil international then turned provider as Edinson Cavani tapped in PSG's third, while Kylian Mbappe ensured he would not miss out on the action when firing past Craig Gordon (35).

After the break, PSG scored three goals in five minutes, with Cavani getting his second (79) in between strikes from Marco Verratti (75) and Dani Alves (80).

The Ligue 1 leaders have now scored 24 goals in five games, seeing them comfortably overtake Borussia Dortmund's record of 21 goals in last season's group stage.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich gave Celtic a huge boost in the race for a Europa League spot after running out 2-1 winners over Anderlecht.

Celtic fans were in dreamland after 56 seconds, with Dembele latching onto an Olivier Ntcham corner to fire a deflected effort past Alphonse Areola.

However, normal service resumed eight minutes later, as Neymar kick-started the comeback with a low strike which squeezed past Gordon into the far corner.

Neymar's second came in similar fashion after playing a quick one-two with Marco Verratti, while the forward then turned provider when inadvertently shouldering the ball over for Cavani to tap-in.

Mbappe then got in on the act 10 minutes before the break, picking the ball up inside the Celtic area before smashing an effort past Gordon.

PSG took their foot off the gas after half-time, but with 15 minutes to go they put on a breathtaking display which produced three goals in five minutes.

Verratti stabbed home the first of those three, and fifth overall, before Cavani grabbed his second with a first-time volley which went in off the far post.

Dani Alves then scored PSG's seventh and final goal with an improvised finish from some 25 yards out.

Man of the match - Neymar

Celtic fans will be glad to see the back of Neymar for another season at least. In six games against the Scottish champions, Neymar has scored seven goals and provided a further seven assists.

His star showing on Wednesday night was a joy to watch, and with the forward having Cavani and Mbappe up front for company, it's difficult to see who will stop this frightening front three at home and abroad.

What's next?

PSG take on second-placed Monaco in Ligue 1 on Sunday, while their final group game comes in a fortnight's time at Bayern Munich. The French side know a draw will guarantee top spot in Group E.

Celtic meanwhile have a Scottish League Cup final to prepare for against Motherwell on Sunday, while they host Anderlecht on December 5 as they bid to secure third and a place in the Europa League after Christmas.
