Highlights of the Carabao Cup clash between Nottingham Forest and Stoke.

Nottingham Forest held on to beat Stoke 3-2 in the Carabao Cup third round despite enduring a nervy last 13 minutes after Diogo Goncalves was sent off.

Stoke goalkeeper Adam Federici was left red-faced on the 20-minute mark when he raced out to collect a through ball only for him to spill it straight onto Ben Osborn's knee and then being forced to watch it trickle into an unguarded goal.

If there was luck involved with the first, there was none when it came to the second as Daryl Murphy unleashed an unstoppable strike from 16 yards after being put through five minutes before the interval.

Forest looked to be out of sight when Joe Lolley cut inside from the right and fired a left-footed shot in off the post from just inside the area in the 50th minute.

Substitute Benik Afobe brought Stoke back into the game when he worked himself some space on the edge of the box from where he toe-poked a shot through Luke Steele.

Team news

Forest made eight changes with Watson, Dias and Osborn the only ones starting their second game of the week, having played in the weekend's win over Rotherham. Only Bruno Martins Indi kept his place in the Stoke team which lost to Blackburn on Saturday, as Gary Rowett made 10 changes.

Goncalves saw red in the second half when he lunged in with his studs up on Tom Edwards, the referee seemed to wave play on until being alerted to the incident by his assistants.

Stoke made the most of the man advantage soon after when Charlie Adam sent the ball across the six-yard box to Saido Berahino, who missed the original shot before swiping home from an almost horizontal position having pretty much sat on the ball.

The former West Brom striker should have levelled things with a minute left on the clock but, despite being unmarked six yards from goal, he headed an inswinging cross from the right well wide.
