Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton believes new signing Carles Gil could be the spark they need to start scoring goals again.
Paul Lambert’s men have scored just once in their last seven top-flight matches and only 11 in their 22 league games. They failed to find the net again as Liverpool won 2-0 on Saturday.
Gil, a Spain U21 midfielder, arrived from Valencia earlier this week on a four-and-a-half year contract, for a reported fee in the region of £3.2m.
He came on for the last 30 minutes against Liverpool, and made a good impression, injecting some much-needed creativity into Villa’s attack.
Hutton told Sky Sports News HQ: “It’s difficult coming in and not really speaking much of the language. Only being here training for a couple of days, it would have been tough for him I think. But to come on with half an hour to go and show everyone what he is capable of is only going to be good for us going forward.

The Villa faithful could not hide their frustration with their team continuing to fire blanks, singing: “We’ll score again, don’t know where, don’t know when…”
Hutton said: “You don’t really hear it when you’re playing. I understand their frustration. They pay their money and they want to come and be entertained at the end of the day.
“They want us to score goals and trust me we are trying. We are doing everything we can to bring that back.”
Another regular chant was “Lambert out,” but Hutton says the players were not affected, and they continue to back their boss.
“As soon as you cross that white line it doesn’t really come into your mind,” he said. “You’re out there and you’re giving your all for everybody, the fans as well, so I don’t really think about it.
“Everybody is 100 per cent behind him. We all trust him and what he’s trying to do.”
