Swansea manager Garry Monk says the club will appeal the red card given to Wayne Routledge in the 1-1 draw with QPR.

Monk was left fuming with the officials with what he described as a "leg-breaker" tackle by QPR midfielder Karl Henry on Routledge in the incident leading up to the Swansea winger’s dismissal.

Henry was given a yellow card for the challenge in the 86th minute but Routledge was sent off by referee Anthony Taylor for his reaction.

“I just hope people see sense,” he said. “It’s clear for everyone to see that he could have had his leg broken very seriously.

“For Wayne to get that angry shows just how serious it is. I understand the linesman said that Wayne kicked him. It’s more of a nudge than a kick. There was absolutely nothing in it. I hope for the sake of football we see some sense and the red card is rescinded.”

QPR were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men themselves when goalkeeper Rob Green stopped Routledge going through by handling the ball outside the area in the sixth minute with the score still 0-0.

Monk again was perplexed about how the officials missed the incident.

“The linesman has the perfect view,” he said.

“These things continually happen. I’m not allowed to say what I really feel. How can you miss that? I just don’t understand. It’s a massive moment in the game. We’re through on goal, he handballs it and it’s a sending off. It would have been a completely different game. Of course we don’t get the decision which is normal for us.”
