Newcastle defender Steven Taylor may miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon against Burnley.
The 28-year-old scored the opener in the 3-3 draw at St James' Park but was forced off on the hour-mark having fallen awkwardly.
John Carver, who took charge of Newcastle in the absence of Alan Pardew, said afterwards: "He's ruptured his Achilles tendon. It's not the one he did previously so I think that's the end of him now for the season.
"I've known Steven since he was in the centre of excellence. He's a great lad and it was great for him to get the goal at the set play. It was set up for him.
"When he landed, you could tell the way he landed it was something to do with the calf and Achilles area and unfortunately it's not looking good."
Taylor, who has managed just 12 appearances for the Magpies this season, endured a serious Achilles injury two years ago and was most recently sidelined by knee trouble.
