Elm penalty cancelled out by Gorter equaliser

AZ Alkmaar's push for automatic European qualification suffered a major setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by NAC Breda. AZ started the night in fourth spot, 11 points adrift of Eredivisie leaders FC Twente and, crucially, six behind third-placed Ajax. They looked set to seal an important victory when Rasmus Elm fired home the opening goal of the night from the penalty spot after 32 minutes. However, NAC earned a spot-kick of their own just before the hour mark and Donny Gorter stepped up to convert. Only the top three teams in Holland are guaranteed continental competition next season, with the next four sides playing off for a Europa League berth. NAC, meanwhile, remain tenth in the standings ahead of the rest of the weekend's action.
