Memphis Depay starred with two goals and two assists as fourth-placed Lyon won at bottom side Guingamp 4-2 in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
Depay had been criticised by Lyon head coach Bruno Genesio recently for publicly declaring he should start more games, comments ill-received within the club considering the inconsistent nature of his performances.
But Depay scored from outside the box and then netted a free-kick against Guingamp to take his tally to five in 13 Ligue 1 games this season.
After Guingamp took a first-half lead, all of Lyon's goals came in the second half, with highly-rated midfielder Houssem Aouar and forward Maxwell Cornet scoring either side of Depay's brace, and both set up by Depay.
Forward Marcus Thuram, son of former France defender Lilian Thuram, netted both for Guingamp.
Montpellier missed the chance to return to second spot as they lost 1-0 at Angers.
Romain Thomas headed the only goal of the game after 69 minutes as Angers won for the first time since September 25 to move clear of the relegation places.
