Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish says Brighton have made a mistake by sacking Chris Hughton

Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish says Brighton have made a mistake by sacking Chris Hughton.

McLeish lost his job as the national team boss last month after just over a year in charge in his second spell.

The 60-year-old says he doesn't agree with Hughton facing the same fate after keeping Brighton in the Premier League and reaching an FA Cup semi-final.

McLeish said: "As far as I can see Chris [Hughton] was doing a fabulous job there. I saw him earlier in the season and I saw him after a game which they had won and I said 'This is fantastic, you are in a really good position should you go through a rainy day.

"He has had a little bit of a rainy day at the end of the season but he had the points in the bag. I am baffled. I am baffled by it."
