USA international Danny Williams is in advanced talks with Huddersfield, Sky sources understand.
The midfielder is a free agent after his contract with Championship side Reading expired last week.
Williams, whose last game for Reading was their Championship play-off final loss to Huddersfield in May, played 135 league games for the Royals after joining the club from Hoffenheim in 2013.
The 28-year-old now appears to be on the verge of joining Huddersfield, who have also agreed a fee with Derby for winger Tom Ince.
Last week, Huddersfield completed the signing of Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy for a club-record fee following his impressive loan spell with the Terriers last season.
