Tony Cottee says Jamie Vardy's strike against Liverpool has to be a contender for goal of the season.

The England striker scored both goals in Leicester's 2-0 victory over Liverpool on Monday and former Foxes and West Ham striker Cottee fully appreciated the skill involved in his opener.

The former Fleetwood Town star beat Reds keeper Simon Mignolet with a stunning 25-yard volley following a sensational pass from Riyad Mahrez before adding another in the second half to ensure his side remained three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Speaking to Sky Sports Now, Cottee, who scored 27 goals in 85 appearances for Leicester between 1997-2000, said: "As an ex-forward I can only appreciate the skill as he is running at full pace.

"The execution, I can't tell you how good that skill is. To hit the ball on the volley up and over the keeper on the run as well and at full pace... I think it's a sensational goal."
