Watford hope to conclude a deal to sign West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster next week, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News reported last week that Watford had opened talks with the Baggies to sign the 35-year-old.
Foster and team-mate Craig Dawson refused to travel with the rest of the Albion squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal.
Foster, who made 41 appearances last season, has one year left on his contract at The Hawthorns and it is thought West Brom could ask for up to £3m for him.
He was on loan at Watford between 2005 and 2007 and helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League.
Watford have already been busy in the summer market, completing the signings of Italy U21 international Adam Masina from Bologna and Spanish defender Marc Navarro from Espanyol.
They also acquired Gerard Deulofeu on a permanent basis in June, after he spent the second half of last season at Vicarage Road on loan from Barcelona.
Manager Javi Gracia began his pre-season regime with the squad this week as they prepare for the 2018/19 Premier League campaign, which the Hornets start with a home match against Brighton on August 11.
