Sean Dyche finds it 'impossible' that Burnley didn't get a penalty at Southampton
Sunday 22 March 2015 10:42, UK
Burnley boss Sean Dyche felt his side were denied a clear penalty by referee Roger East in the 2-0 defeat at Southampton.
With the game at 0-0, George Boyd went down under a Jose Fonte challenge as the Burnley man changed direction in the box but East waved away the appeals.
Shane Long then grabbed his first Premier League goal for 14 games before a Jason Shackell own goal rubberstamped the victory on a bittersweet afternoon for Saints, who had Fraser Forster stretchered off with a serious-looking knee injury.
Dyche, whose side remain in the bottom three, was left perplexed that his side wasn't awarded a spot-kick.
"It is impossible how we didn't get a penalty, I have seen it back," he said.

"It was certainly very surprising we didn't get a penalty. I don't mention it too often but that is the third one in a matter of weeks that we haven't had."
But it was the lack of a clinical edge in front of goal that Dyche believes cost his side a chance at getting out of the relegation zone and adding to the eight points they have collected away from Turf Moor so far this season.
"I thought we had four key chances, certainly three, and we didn't take them," he added.
"They were good saves from the keeper but I played with Kelvin a long time ago and they are saves a keeper of his calibre was expected to make.
"I was disappointed in the finishing because at half-time you're scratching your head at how we are 1-0 down."
The defeat leaves Burnley two points behind Aston Villa and in 18th place with games against two other Champions League-chasing clubs in Tottenham and Arsenal to come after the international break.
But striker George Boyd is refusing to give up the fight insisting the Clarets can beat anyone on their day.
Speaking to Sky Sports he said: "There are four massive home games left now, two in a row which are live on Sky, so we’re looking forward to that.
"Obviously we want to bounce back straightaway and we will take a lot of confidence from our game last week when we beat Manchester City.
"They are the champions and that just shows we can beat anyone on our day. Hopefully we can beat Tottenham and Arsenal as the home games are massive for us.
"Results have gone for us today but we can’t worry about them too much as long as we get enough wins we’ll be fine."
