Premier League: Swansea boss Garry Monk upset after Southampton home defeat

Swansea boss Garry Monk felt the consistency of decision-making by referee Jon Moss cost his side as they went down to a home defeat against Southampton.

The visitors grabbed a late winner to beat Swansea's ten men as Monk's side played more than half the game without Wilfried Bony, who was sent-off six minutes before the break after collecting two yellow cards for rash challenges on defender Maya Yoshida.

Victor Wanyama scored his first goal for the Saints with an angled right-foot shot into the top left corner to grab all three points at the Liberty Stadium.

It's very disappointing. The consistency of the decisions were very poor from the referee today but we have to deal with that ourselves.

But Monk was left disappointed that Ronald Koeman's side were let off lightly with Jose Fonte and James Ward-Prowse involved in incidents during the game which might have resulted in a harsher punishment.

He told Sky Sports: "Yeah, the first challenge (by Bony), I think it was a foul. I didn't have the clearest of views but whether it was a yellow or not, I will have to have a look at it again.

"The second one is a foul. Especially when he's on a yellow, you can't make that scissor tackle action even though there was no malice in it and obviously that second booking put us in a difficult position.

Fonte went in with a wild looking challenge on Wayne Routledge just before the break and Monk added: "It was a similar incident in the box and I've seen many yellow cards given for that. Ward-Prowse in the 65th minute made a scissor tackle exactly the same as that. It went as a foul but wasn't given a yellow card.

"It's very disappointing. The consistency of the decisions were very poor from the referee today but we have to deal with that ourselves."
