Wales and West Brom striker Hal Robson-Kanu has vowed to wear a poppy to the FIFA Puskas awards in January.

Robson-Kanu, 27, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Puskas award which recognises the best goal scored in 2016.

The West Brom forward's magnificent Cruyff-turn and strike during Wales' Euro 2016 quarter final with Belgium has been acknowledged on a 10-man shortlist alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Now, the former Reading man has declared that he will wear a poppy to the awards in response to FIFA's disciplinary action against the football Association of Wales (FAW).

The Welsh FA were charged in relation to several incidents including "some supporters in the stands wearing poppies" during the match against Serbia.

Robson-Kanu had tweeted, "For those asking...Yes I will wear a Poppy to the Awards! Thank you to everyone who's voting," on Tuesday and has now elaborated on that claim.

"It's a difficult one. It's important that what has happened is remembered," Robson-Kanu told WalesOnline.

Robson-Kanu was a free agent when he played for Chris Coleman's side in the summer, and his goal triggered a wave of offers before the striker ended up at the Hawthorns.

The 38-time capped Wales international has thanked and praised the fans in the wake of his "massive" nomination.

"I'm so honoured to be nominated for the award," Robson-Kanu added.

"It's massive for me. It just reiterates how amazing the summer was for us as a squad and for Wales as a nation.
