Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has won the Championship manager of the month award for October.

The Spaniard led his side to five straight wins over Rotherham, Brentford, Barnsley, Ipswich and Preston - three of which were away from home - to affirm their position at the top of the table.

Benitez beat Brighton's Chris Hughton, Preston boss Simon Grayson and Leeds manager Garry Monk, who all had excellent Octobers, to the award.

But Benitez' star striker Dwight Gayle, who scored four goals in those five games, has missed out on Championship player of the month award, which has gone to Fulham's Sone Aluko.

The 27-year-old forward, who joined from Hull in the summer, scored a stunning goal in the west London derby win over Brentford and provided a hat-trick of assists as the Whites demolished Huddersfield 5-0.
