Most-discussed summer deals

Not every transfer that features on the list was a transfer that went through, such as Jamie Vardy to Arsenal and Riyad Mahrez to Chelsea.

However, the most talked about summer deal was Paul Pogba's world record-breaking transfer to Manchester United, closely followed by new team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also at number four.

Three of Arsenal's big deals also feature in the top ten list, including Granit Xhaka, Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi.

Most-discussed Deadline Day deals

There aren't many surprises with the number one in this list, with David Luiz' move to Chelsea topping the most-discussed deals on Twitter with Moussa Sissoko and Jack Wilshere making up the top three.

Ever the centre of attention, Mario Balotelli's free transfer to Nice from Liverpool featured high-up in fourth place while former team-mate Joe Hart's eventual loan move to Torono rounds out the top five.

Interestingly, two other Man City exits in Samir Nasri to Sevilla and Wilfried Bony to Stoke came in ninth and tenth respectively, while Juan Cuadrado's three-year loan move to Juventus also features.

Players on the move

The social media platform is the place for all the breaking transfer deals, with players often taking to their personal accounts to thank fans of their outgoing club while introducing themselves to their new supporters.

Wilfried Bony - who has gone on loan to Stoke from Man City - did just that, tweeting early in the morning: 'It's a new day and I look forward to a new exciting challenge.' He added after his transfer: "Thank You to all the MCFC fans for the support & hello to @stokecity fans I look forward to a great season together," accompanied by a picture of him holding his Stoke shirt.

See if Wilfried Bony could score on his Stoke debut playing for their under-23 side hours after signing for the club.

Moussa Sissoko was one of the mysteries of Deadline Day, but eventually made a £30m move to Tottenham from Newcastle after reports suggested he was on his way to Everton. After racking up some serious miles, he said on Twitter: 'Very happy to join @SpursOfficial for the next 5 years!'

Leicester City also did late business to sign Islam Slimani, and the Algeria international also posted a picture with his new Foxes shirt, saying in French: 'I am honored to join the team, I can not wait to start. I will give everything to @ LCFC.'

But some were a bit quick off the mark to announce their deals with the ever-entertaining Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia tweeting the arrival of Albert Adomah from Middlesbrough - three hours before the official club confirmation.

David Luiz returns to the Bridge

Here is the man of the hour. David Luiz casually strolls through St Pancras ahead of his possible return to Chelsea.

In a shock move, David Luiz made a sensational return to Stamford Bridge, with the Chelsea account teasing earlier in the day: 'More news to come... #DeadlineDay', and confirmed with a simple 'Welcome back @DavidLuiz_4!' from the Blues.

Fellow summer arrival Michy Batshuayi - who played against David Luiz in Ligue 1 - welcomed the defender back to the club:

Sky Sports' own Sarah-Jane Mee also made us hungry with her tweet as David Luiz made his way through St Pancras Station:

Hart in Italy

After weeks of speculation, Hart finally made the loan move to Torino on Deadline Day, with the Manchester City account tweeting: 'Joe Hart has joined @TorinoFC_1906 on a season-long loan - good luck in Italy, Joe.'

Fellow City stopper Willy Caballero took to his personal account to wish Hart luck, posting a picture of the two and the caption: 'All the best wishes to my friend in this new step in his career.'

Star striker Sergio Aguero also thanked his team-mate, posting an image along with the message: 'Best of luck on the next stage of your journey, Joe! We shared unforgettable moments together at @ManCity !'

Wilshere loaned to Cherries

First it was a two horse race between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, then Serie A came sniffing as Roma and AC Milan registered their interest, but eventually Wilshere ended up on the south coast at the Vitality Stadium.

Reporter Mark McAdam used his caps lock quota for the day to announce the deal after he confirmed it live on Sky Sports News HQ, saying: "DEAL DONE !! JACK WILSHERE IS AN #AFCB PLAYER."

Football fun

Pundits and players were also on hand to give their views on the Deadline Day deals, with Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher wasting no time in his feelings about Mario Balotelli's move from Liverpool to Nice.

Peter Crouch is no stranger to a Deadline Day move - transferring to current team Stoke from Tottenham in 2011 - but assured many worried fans he wasn't going anywhere this year.

Staying in the Potteries, former Stoke team-mates Jack Butland and Peter Odemwingie engaged in some transfer-based banter after the forward's infamous Deadline Day trip to QPR in January 2013.

Club funnies

While the final day of the transfer window is stressful for some clubs, others like to use the hectic day and the fans' eagerness for new signings to have some fun.

Special mention goes to Ipswich Town for this throughout the day, although there was to be no appearance from Coldplay frontman or Scotland international Chris Martin - who eventually joined Fulham on loan from Derby - but the Tractor Boys did announce the arrival of Jonny Williams for a fourth loan spell at Portman Road.

In Scotland, Inverness Caledonian Thistle were feeling generous with the media, tweeting: 'Just nipped out to ask the assembled #DeadlineDay press pack if they wanted a cuppa' - only to post a picture of a deserted road.

The laughs kept on coming in Scotland, as Berwick Rangers mentioned a tweet from account sponsors Newcastle Airport of their empty arrivals hall and teased the arrival of a Uruguayan superstar: 'Don't forget us, there's a 16:15 from Paris. Hello @ECavaniOfficial.'

Deadline Day dogs

The arrival of Deadline Day brings a great tradition of people dressing up their dogs and we had plenty of brilliant examples coming our way on Twitter this year.

While some opt for the football shirt, there's always the iconic yellow tie as chosen by football fans Matty Walker and Darren Lavery for their dogs Morgan and Alfie.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News reporter Michelle Owen warned clubs off a transfer deal her dog Barney, tweeting: 'Barney is ready for #DeadlineDay @SkySportsNewsHQ he's not for sale though... Ever!'
