Midfielder moves to New Meadow

Jimmy Ryan has admitted his delight at agreeing to become a Shrewsbury Town player. The former Liverpool midfielder has signed on at New Meadow but, due to the technicalities of his contract, he will not officially become a Shrewsbury player until 1st January. Ryan, 19, has been impressing on loan with the League Two outfit since joining in pre-season and the club have extended the temporary move until the end of November to ensure he is available for the first team. However, Ryan - who has featured for Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup and Johnstone Paint Trophy - will then only be eligible for the reserve team until his permanent move begins in 2008.

Relief

Ryan has yet to play for Shrewsbury in league football, but he has admitted his relief at finally securing the deal. "I'm made up that everything's been sorted and I'm going to be a Shrewsbury Town player," Ryan told Shrewsbury's official website. "I've been here for a few months now and Shrewsbury and Liverpool have been trying to come to an agreement. "I'm happy it's now worked out and I can concentrate on doing well and pushing for the Shrewsbury first team.
Big decision
"It was a big decision to leave Liverpool but I think it was the best thing to come to Shrewsbury and try to progress here." Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters has also welcomed Ryan's long-term move and is looking forward to developing the teenager. "It's still early days and we haven't seen Jimmy play in our league against that type of team," Peters told Shrewsbury's official website. "So it's now a test for us to see if we can help Jimmy step up to Football League standard."
