Teenager Josh Koroma scored a hat-trick as Leyton Orient came out on top in the battle of the bottom two in emphatic style, beating Newport 4-0 at Rodney Parade.
Koroma's heroics combined with a first-half Steven Alzate goal dealt the Exiles a serious blow to their survival hopes. Graham Westley's men are now without a win in seven games and are nine points adrift from Sky Bet League Two safety.
They had started brightly, with Orient's debutant goalkeeper Charlie Grainger tipping over a Ryan Bird header.
But against the run of play, the visitors took the lead in the eighth minute through Alzate who tapped in at the far post following Koroma's cross.
And it soon got better when Koroma bagged his first with a cool finish past Joe Day before the 18-year-old extended the advantage on the stroke of half-time after Sam Dalby carved his way through some lacklustre Newport defending.
Koroma capped off his hat-trick from the penalty spot midway through the second half after Mark O'Brien fouled Alzate.
