A lone piece of quality from Steve Morison kept Millwall's slim chances of automatic promotion alive as the veteran striker helped inflict a 1-0 defeat on Fleetwood.
Morison's beautiful finish was worthy of such heights but his side's overall showing was not.
Fleetwood stroked the ball around in central areas throughout with Millwall's token chasing-down resembling a training exercise.
The Cod Army's extra midfielder provided a perennial passing outlet and Bobby Grant's acrobatic volley thudded the crossbar.
However, Jamie Philpot's half-time introduction revived Millwall. The teenager had played just 12 minutes across three substitute run-outs this season, having scored on his only nine minute-long appearance last season.
Once more he had an immediate impact. Seven minutes after the break he flicked Fleetwood's half-clearance back goalwards, from where Morison delicately dinked the ball over Chris Maxwell, who had shuffled too far from his line.
Millwall were far superior in the second half but remained ragged nearer their own goal.
However, Fleetwood failed to trouble Jordan Archer and remain two points from the relegation zone while the Lions are six points off the top two.
