Mansfield’s winless run was extended to a fifth game as Cheltenham chalked up a comfortable 3-0 victory to heap the pressure on home boss John Dempster.
The Robins were fortunate early on when Nicky Maynard seemed to be pulled back as he tried to burst clear on goal between two defenders, with nothing given.
Home goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik, back in a League Two game for the first time in a year, then made three saves to deny Alex Addai in a largely drab first half, the first and best after nine minutes with his legs.
But he could do nothing after 32 minutes as Jonte Smith rose unchallenged to head home from a fine Jake Doyle-Hayes cross.
Maynard almost levelled a minute from the break as he lashed across the face of goal, while in stoppage time Will Boyle nodded over the home bar from a corner.
However, it was 2-0 seven minutes into the second half as Chris Hussey's free-kick was guided home by Boyle's diving header.
The Stags never looked like recovering and with four minutes to go Ryan Broom sent Addai away to slot under Olejnik and seal the victory.
