Leeds 1-1 Wigan: Latics snatch point at the death
Tuesday 18 October 2016 22:54, UK
Shaun MacDonald hit an injury-time equaliser as relegation-threatened Wigan rescued a 1-1 draw at Leeds.
It had looked like Leeds would make it four home Championship wins on the bounce after Chris Wood's eighth goal of the campaign.
But MacDonald rifled home in the first minute of stoppage time with the aid of the post as the visitors got their reward for a dogged defensive effort.
Leeds dominated the majority of the game but failed to close the win out with Adam Bogdan pulling off smart second-half saves to deny Luke Ayling, Alex Mowatt and Wood.
United's Pontus Jansson also had a powerful header cleared off the line by the impressive Jake Buxton.

Wigan had their moments and should have levelled in the first half when Michael Jacobs hit the outside of the post from close range.
Kemar Roofe fired wide on 12 minutes for Leeds following excellent work down the left by Charlie Taylor.
Buxton read the play superbly to rob Hadi Sacko of the ball as the United winger broke into the box on 22 minutes.
Wood tried his luck from distance a minute later as the hosts started to up the tempo.
And the home side got their reward when Wood opened the scoring with a powerful finish after taking down Sacko's cross on his chest.
Jacobs hit the post when he should have scored after Will Grigg created an opening on 38 minutes.
Robert Green then pulled off a stunning reflex save to beat Nick Powell's header away as Wigan rallied just before the break.
Kyle Bartley headed powerfully over from a set-piece as Leeds started strongly after the restart.
Sacko's bursting run into the box was ended by another smart challenge from Buxton, before Wood narrowly fired over from the resulting corner.
Ayling nearly doubled the home side's lead with a thunderous effort which Bogdan diverted for a corner on 56 minutes.
Buxton kept Wigan in the game moments later when he headed Jansson's header to safety.
Latics boss Gary Caldwell was left furious after referee Peter Bankes turned down penalty appeals when Powell went down in the box.
Bogdan produced a stunning one-handed save to palm away Wood's looping header on 70 minutes and keep the Latics' fading hopes alive.
And his heroics were rewarded when Wigan levelled right at the death when Max Power guided the ball back into the path of MacDonald who made no mistake.
Leeds boss Garry Monk:
"We are very disappointed not to get the three points, we paid a very high price at the end. After going in front we have to be more determined to get that second and third goal.
"We need to not rest and try and dominate. We need to go on and get a second and a third goal, that is the next step for the group.
Wigan boss Gary Caldwell:
"We are happy to get the point and I'm really happy with the performance. I felt we deserved more. We are now four games unbeaten and this keeps our run going and gives us momentum.
"The goal in the first half was a frustration, we knew about (Hadi) Sacko and Wood's danger, but we kept going and played the right way."
